Twilight Signs’ Latest Installation Success for Sheraton Hotel

At Twilight Signs, we specialize in creating high-quality external signage for various industries. Our recent external signage installation for the Sheraton Hotel at Toronto Pearson International Airport is a prime example of how we deliver on even the most complex projects on time and within budget.

Our client faced a challenge: a thin budget and quotes from other installers that exceeded the total project cost. At Twilight Signs, we were able to develop a solution that addressed both the financial constraints and the unique logistical challenges of working in a busy international airport.

Navigating Tight Windows and Restrictions

The installation presented multiple hurdles, particularly with the multi-level terminal structures and proximity to the airport tram system. The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) imposed strict safety protocols, dictating that no work could be done within 4 meters of the tram tracks. Shutting down the tram was not an option, as it would have cost millions and disrupted passenger movement, requiring shuttle coordination.

Moreover, we were restricted to a limited 4-hour working window every other day, making precise planning essential. The most prominent sign designated S2, required careful coordination to ensure it was installed safely without interrupting the flow of airport operations.

Innovative Solutions for Complex Problems

To address the challenges, we explored creative solutions. We collaborated with a local window-washing company that was equipped to handle the elevated external signage installation for the Sheraton Hotel. This partnership allowed us to safely install the signage at the glass solarium levels in compliance with GTAA’s guidelines.

Additionally, we installed plywood under the elevated glass structures to support the removal, repainting, and installation of the S2 signage. We are also building scaffolding for the final phase of the project to ensure that all installations are safely completed.

Successful Delivery Within Budget

We are proud to report that, to date, ¾ of the elevations have been completed. All signage has been removed, repainted, and reinstalled within the Sheraton Hotel’s budgetary constraints. The scope of this project was something no other signage company in the Greater Toronto Area was willing to take on, but we saw it as an opportunity to showcase our expertise.

This successful installation highlights our ability to handle challenging projects and solidifies our partnership with Knightstone, which led to the award of the McMaster University signage project.
